The Deserts are classified as areas which receive less than 10 inches of precipitation a year. Europe and Antarctica are the only 2 continents which do not contain desert ecosystems. Despite its barren façade, deserts are teeming with life. The deserts of the world are not all made equal. Some are made of fine red sand others of sand mixed with pebbles and rocks. The desert sand started as rock but weathering over many millions years by wind and water has created dunes in the deserts.
