Zambia, Southern Africa's best kept secret, features a great diversity of habitat, scenery and wildlife. We can expect a wildlife experience that is difficult to duplicate elsewhere in the world. With its large elephant, hippo, lion and leopard population,, we will experience the magic and sheer visual splendor of the heart of Africa. Of all the animals on the African continent, the leopard can be one of the most elusive and magnificent creatures to capture on film. Their solitary ways, unpredictable habits and superb camouflage, make it a challenge to spot this beautiful cat. The Focus on Leopards safari takes you to the "hot spot" of leopard sightings, the remote Luangwa Valley in Zambia. This area is also a good part of Africa to see the endangered Wild Dog.
We will spend six nights in a newly remodeled deluxe lodge and four nights in two different bush camps.
Maximum Participants: 8 with 4 photographers per 7-passenger Land Rover. Your photographer guide will rotate between Land Rovers.
We will fly from Johannesburg to Lusaka today, the capital city of Zambia. Upon arrival, we transfer to our regional flight to Mfuwe in the South Luangwa Valley. The Luangwa Valley has been called the "Last Kingdom of the Elephants" and indeed one of the most memorable sights is of elephants venturing across the river, sometimes in groups of over 100 strong.
We depart after breakfast on a morning game drive. The group will be split into two groups, each going to a different bush camp for two nights. After two nights each group will switch camps. We will have a total of four days at two bushcamps. The focus on this part of our safari will be flora and the smaller animals on nature walks. Walking safaris are exceptional with numerous trails following the course of the river. We will also go on morning and afternoon game drives.
